Over the last year, we’ve introduced you to St. Jude League Community Development and our community development and education programs in high-poverty urban neighborhoods in the U.S. Now we’re excited to announce the launch of another program from the Claretians: Latino Legacies.
Latino Legacies is a series of short-form interview biographies of living Latino role models in the U.S. who are succeeding in important, meaningful careers traditionally seen as unattainable for people in high-poverty communities. The series offers a wider world of strong options for children and teens than their neighborhoods can provide. Production costs of each film are underwritten by private and corporate entities who support this unique reach into these communities.
Legacies’ subjects will represent a range of role models from people who are significant successes in their fields of expertise on a national level to accomplished career people impacting and improving the world at a local community level.
The first film in the first series was just premiered; it profiles Manny Villafana, a highly successful entrepreneur in the biomedical industry with an astounding story and an amazing commitment to serving youth in the Bronx. To learn more about Manny, his childhood in the Bronx, and how he became a respected force in the biomedical world, check out the premiere film in the Latino Legacies series.
